Sean Chen Returns to The Palladium to Perform Tchaikovsky with the Carmel Symphony Orchestra
You will feel the joy of the music when Sean Chen returns to the Palladium stage to join the Carmel Symphony Orchestra (CSO) for this March 10 performance at 7:30 p.m. A pre-concert conversation featuring Chen along with Music Director Janna Hymes, begins at 6:45 p.m. And, not to be missed: the announcement of the 2018-19 season!
2013 American Pianists Awards winner Sean Chen is a nationally acclaimed rising star on the classical music scene, engaging audiences with his unique ability to connect. He will perform Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in B-flat minor, Op. 23, a familiar piece to audiences that Chen brings to life 144 years after it was written.
The evening begins with Franck’s tone poem, The Accursed Horseman that dramatically tells the tale of a nobleman who chose to hunt on the Sabbath … and ultimately paid a hefty price. On a happier note, one of Hymes’ favorites — Brahms Symphony No. 2 in D Major, Op. 73 — concludes the program.
“Any time an orchestra performs Brahms, there is a sense of glee. The music is so beautiful, so profound … we get lost in the lushness every time,” says Hymes. “This particular Brahms piece is my personal favorite of his four symphonies. The overall construction, the relationship of the movements and the combination of simplicity and complexity is always a challenge we, as musicians, love to face.”
